Workshop to focus on effective communication

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- We have all had those moments when we wish we could take back the words we just spoke because they came out sounding so different than what we intended.

An upcoming workshop for faculty and staff at Southern Illinois University Carbondale will focus on effective communication as an essential part of work success and good leadership.

The Labor and Employee Relations presentation “Conducting a Leadership Symphony:  Shifting Keys” is set for 9:30-11 a.m. on Thursday, July 19, in Rooms 111-112 at the Student Health Center.

Carol Fisher, workforce learning and development officer, will discuss the various leadership styles people use, core areas of employee development and the need to pay attention and be accountable.  She will clarify employee development levels and how to best match leadership styles with those levels for the benefit of all involved as well as the organization as a whole.  The program will focus on integrating organizational and personal change strategies crucial for employee development.

The free workshop is open to all campus faculty and staff.  Registration is on a walk-in basis.  For more information, contact Fisher at cefisher@siu.edu
