Free workshop available to faculty, staff

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Each and every day provides untold one-second opportunities and choices about how we act and react to what’s happening around us.

An upcoming workshop for faculty and staff at Southern Illinois University Carbondale will focus on addressing frustrations and emotions effectively so they don’t interfere with our ability to listen and perform our work effectively.

“It’s a Team Effort:  Working with Kindness,” is a Labor and Employee Relations presentation set for 9:30-11 a.m. on Thursday, June 21, at the Student Health Center’s Auditorium.

Carol Fisher, workforce learning and development officer, will discuss how our split-second choices to respond to people and situations can set the tone and play a significant role in our interactions and outcomes.  She will offer ideas for handling frustrations with patience and kindness, listening and dealing with emotions and feelings constructively even when others treat us rudely.

All campus faculty and staff are welcome to attend the free workshop.  Registration is on a walk-in basis.  For more information, contact Fisher at cefisher@siu.edu.
