Workshop will focus on effective communication

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- We can’t change what happens to us but we can alter how we react.

An upcoming workshop for faculty and staff at Southern Illinois University Carbondale will focus on communication and how effectively conversing with one another improves work and performance.

“How to Handle What Life Dishes Out” is a Labor and Employee Relations presentation set for 9:30-11 a.m. on Thursday, April 26, at the Student Health Services Auditorium.

Carol Fisher, workforce learning and development officer, will discuss professional integrity and actions we can take to arrive at positive solutions.  Even in the workplace, there are sometimes complaints and accusations aimed at us, but there are ways to professionally respond to criticism from co-workers and others and methods for resolving issues constructively.

All campus faculty and staff are welcome at the free workshop.  Registration is on a walk-in basis.  For more information, contact Fisher at cefisher@siu.edu.
