Student trustee nominating petitions due March 23

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale students who want to take an active role in their University can apply now to be a candidate for student trustee on the SIU Board of Trustees.

During a campus wide election in early April, students will choose their representative.  Although the typical one-year term runs from July 1 to June 30, this year the trustee will serve on the board from May 2012 through June 30, 2013, thus also covering an unexpired term.

The position is open to all undergraduate, graduate and professional students.  To be eligible for the post, a student must be an Illinois resident, have and maintain a GPA of 2.5 or above, be in good academic and disciplinary standing, have completed at least one semester at SIU Carbondale and be enrolled full-time during the term of office with the exception of the summer semester.  A student cannot hold an office in Undergraduate Student Government or on the Graduate and Professional Student Council while serving as a student trustee.

All those interested in serving as student trustee should stop by the Student Government Office on the third floor of the Student Center and pick up a candidate petition form.  Submit the completed form, including 200 or more SIU Carbondale student signatures, to the office no later than 4:30 p.m. on March 23.

All candidates or their recognized proxies must attend a mandatory pre-campaign meeting set for 5 p.m. on April 2 at a location to be determined in the Student Center.
