Student Center to host ‘Bowling in Ballgowns’

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- They are there, lurking in the back of your closet, worn once, never again to see the light of day -- until now!

Break out those ball gowns, those dresses from prom, weddings and other assorted special events and in the process help others in need at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Bowling in Ballgowns on March 24. You gals are encouraged to put those fancy dresses on and bowl for a worthy cause.  Afterward anyone who wants to may leave their gowns and organizers will donate the dresses to Goodwill.  Guys are welcome too, wearing whatever they think appropriate -- tuxes, suits, ball gowns or their everyday attire.

Proceeds from the tournament will go to The Good Samaritan House and relief efforts for the area in and around Harrisburg hit by the Feb. 29 tornado.  The event is coming to the Student Center Bowling and Billiards beginning at 9 a.m. with flights throughout the day to fit the busy schedules of participants.

“Bowling in Ballgowns gives everyone the opportunity to have fun and do something a little different at the bowling alley while supporting very worthy causes,” said Tena Bennett, associate director of the Student Center.

Four-person teams will play two games.  If you sign up by March 9, the registration fee is $10 per person.  It is $15 each after March 9.  Participants can win team and individual prizes.

To register, or for more information call 618/453-2803 or stop by Student Center Bowling and Billiards.
