Faculty and staff welcome at workshop

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Sometimes we intend to say one thing, but what others hear from our mouths is something entirely different.

An upcoming workshop for faculty and staff at Southern Illinois University Carbondale will focus on the need for effective communication and how to make it happen.

“Conducting a Leadership Symphony:  Shifting Keys” is the Labor and Employee Relations presentation set for 9:30-11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 23, at the Student Health Center Auditorium.

Carol Fisher, workforce learning and development officer, will discuss how good communication is essential to good leadership and how to differentiate between people’s leadership styles and mesh them to accomplish objectives.  The program will identify core areas for employee development through leadership and clarify employee development as the key to workplace commitment and excellence.  Fisher will offer ideas for matching leadership styles with employee development levels to empower all involved and achieve strategic goals, focusing on integrating organizational and personal change strategies for ongoing employee development.

All campus faculty and staff may attend the free workshop.  Registration is on a walk-in basis.  For more information, contact Fisher at cefisher@siu.edu.
