CARBONDALE, Ill. -- An annual event showcasing top research at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is set for this spring and officials are encouraging faculty, students and organizations to sign up to participate.

The ninth annual Research Town Meeting and Fair will take place Tuesday, April 17, in the Student Center ballrooms. It will feature presentations on scholarly and creative activities conducted by members of the University community.

The event features display posters, exhibits and performances while giving their creators the opportunity to answer questions regarding their work. It also gives students, faculty and staff members the opportunity to network and enrich their work and experiences, and allows faculty and students across campus to learn how colleagues outside their units are conducting research while looking for opportunities for cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Deadline for registration is March 29.  Go to http://researchtownmeeting.siuc.edu/ to register and get more information.

This year’s event starts at noon in the Student Center Auditorium with the 2011 Scholar Excellence Award Lecture featuring Dr. Michael Neumeister, professor of plastic surgery at the SIU School of Medicine. Neumeister will give a lecture titled, “Bedside to Bench:  Do I Have That Backward,” followed by a reception in the International Lounge.

The SIU Carbondale Showcase begins at 1:30 p.m. The event features posters, exhibits, demonstrations, performances and the Technology Transfer Forum in Ballrooms B, C and D, the J.W. Corker Lounge and the International Lounge.

The event winds down about 3:30 p.m. with a wine and cheese reception and awards ceremony in Ballroom D.
