‘Alumni 101’ series offers valuable tips to students

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A five-part series that begins later this month will give students at Southern Illinois University Carbondale a glimpse of what to expect after they graduate.

The SIU Alumni Association is offering “Alumni 101, “ which will tackle issues that include searching for a job; wise budgeting, management and investment suggestions; resume critiques and interview skills; and making post-graduation decisions.

In a relaxed and entertaining setting, students will have a chance to eat, win prizes, and learn some basic skills they will need before entering the professional workplace.

The first session, “Job Bound,” begins at 5 p.m., Feb. 16, in the John C. Guyon Auditorium in Morris Library.  The seminar will feature author and job search specialist Brad Karsh, president and founder of “Job Bound.” Karsh has also written two books, “Confessions of a Recruiting Director,” and “How to Say it on Your Resume.”

Each of the remaining series topics will be in Lawson Hall, room 151.  The remaining series schedule is:

  • Feb. 29 -- 5 p.m.  “It’s All About the Benjamin$”

  • March 7 -- 5 p.m.  “The Office: Dress Up and Bring Your Resume.”

  • March 21 -- 5 p.m. “Translating Day 1: What to Expect at Your New Job.”

  • March 28 -- 5 p.m. “Decisions, Decisions.”
