Safety Alert

The Carbondale Police Department is investigating a robbery that occurred in the 1300 block of South Wall Street, near University Hall, at approximately 3 a.m. today (Feb. 4).  Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Department of Public Safety is assisting with the investigation.

The victim, an SIU Carbondale student, told police that three black males approached her as she was walking and stole her purse.  The suspects were last seen running from the area.  The victim was not injured.

Police advise members of the campus community to be aware of their surroundings at all times, and if traveling at night to use the Saluki Express, Night Safety Transit Service and Brightway Path.  In addition, emergency call phones are located across campus, including on both overpasses.
