Workshop’s focus is addressing, diffusing conflict

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill.  -- Great minds don’t always think alike, meaning workplace conflict is sometimes inevitable.

An upcoming workshop at Southern Illinois University Carbondale will provide faculty and staff with tools and tips for addressing conflict and diffusing it.  “The Value of Voltage:  Connect the Disconnects” is a presentation from Labor and Employee Relations set for 9:30-11 a.m. on Feb. 2 at the Student Health Center Auditorium.

Carol Fisher, workforce learning and development officer, will discuss ways we can solve problems and improve communication with the goal of positive resolution.  She will focus on the importance of getting all of the facts, setting priorities, honing in on specific, relevant issues and coming together for the common good.  Negative ideas and attitudes can impact others around us so projecting a professional image and minimizing negativity while being accountable, taking responsibility for what we say and do, and working together gets things accomplished successfully.

All campus faculty and staff are welcome to attend at no cost.  Registration is on a walk-in basis.  For more information, contact Fisher at cefisher@siu.edu.
