RSO and Volunteerism Fair set for Jan. 19

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale students can get involved in hundreds of ways as this week’s RSO and Volunteerism Fair will illustrate.

The free event is set for 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 19, at the Student Center.  Visit the Ballrooms, Corker Lounge and International Lounge to get a peek at a sizeable representation of the more than 400 registered student organizations on campus along with a number of community organizations.

More than 150 RSOs will be participating, and their representatives will offer information about sports and recreation clubs, scholastic and professional honorary societies, public interest groups, student government groups, departmental and special interest organizations, Greek groups, cultural groups, community partners and much more.

“The ROS and Volunteerism Fair is a great opportunity for students to learn about the many non-profit organizations in the community and the valuable service they provide for our region.  The fair is also a good way for our community partners to meet and talk with students about potential volunteer opportunities.  Each year the feedback from both students and community partners is positive,” said Mythili Rundblad, coordinator of service-learning and volunteerism.

Student Involvement and Leadership Development, a unit of Student Life and Intercultural Relations, hosts the RSO and Volunteerism Fair at the beginning of each semester.  For more information, contact Bethany Wendler, coordinator of Student Involvement and Leadership Development, at wendlerba@siu.edu or look online at http://getinvolved.siu.edu/involved/join-an-rso.
