Flags lowered to honor war casualty

Under a proclamation signed by Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn, the United States flag and the Illinois flag are to be at half-staff at all State of Illinois facilities in honor of a Rock Island County soldier killed earlier this month while fighting in Afghanistan.

Flags are to be flown at half-staff immediately until sunset, Friday, Dec. 2, in honor of U.S. Army Pfc. Adam E. Dobereiner of Moline.

Reports said Dobereiner, 21, died Nov. 18 from injuries received when insurgents attacked his unit with an improvised explosive device.  The attack occurred in southern Afghanistan in Kandahar province.  Two other soldiers in Dobereiner’s unit received injuries.

A 2008 graduate of Moline High School, Dobereiner joined the Army in January 2011.  He deployed to Afghanistan in June.

Dobereiner was assigned to the 937th Engineer Co., 8th Engineer Battalion, 36th Engineer Brigade at Fort Hood, Texas.
