Choirs to perform music from three churches

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois University Carbondale Concert Choir and the Choral Union present an evening of music, “Vespers and Evensong.”

The concert is set for 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17 in Shryock Auditorium.  Tickets are $12, with student tickets for $6.

The concert features music from Russian Orthodox, Anglican and Catholic churches’ perspectives, particularly drawing from the evening liturgical traditions of the three faiths.

Anita Hutton, assistant to the dean in the College of Liberal Arts and a musician, shares her talent by accompanying the choir and choral union on Shryock’s pipe organ.  Susan Davenport directs.

Tickets are available at the door, beginning one hour before the concert.  Get tickets in advance at the Shryock Auditorium box office during office hours, or by calling 618/453-6000 or online at SouthernTicketsOnline.com.
