Faculty, staff welcome at Nov. 10 workshop

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- First impressions only happen once.

Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Labor and Employee Relations is sponsoring the workshop “One Call--One Voice--One Chance” to help campus faculty and staff determine how to make that first impression count.  The workshop is set for 9:30 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 10, at the Student Health Center Auditorium.

Carol Fisher, workforce learning and development officer, notes that while there are thousands of people working on campus, for the caller or visitor the person they are talking to at any given time is the face and voice of the University.  She’ll discuss what separates a great experience from a disastrous one, the importance of frontline staff and the need to be consistent in representing SIU Carbondale.  She said we only get one chance to connect with people and customer service is only as strong as those who deliver it, via telephone or in person.

Those attending may register as they arrive or in advance by sending an RSVP email to Fisher at cefisher@siu.edu.
