Drive will collect food for Good Samaritan House

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- It’s a challenge with a good cause.

The School of Accountancy at Southern Illinois University Carbondale decided to do something to benefit the community and threw down the gauntlet by turning the event into a challenge.  The accounting school will hold a food drive Nov. 1 to 15, collecting donations of nonperishable food items for the Good Samaritan House this holiday season.

They also launched a friendly competition by challenging the other departments in the College of Business as well as the dean’s office, to join them in collecting donations.  The goal is to see which area can achieve the most success in amassing food contributions.

Donations from everyone are welcome.  There will be large collection boxes at Rehn Hall in the administrative office of each department as well as in the dean’s office, beginning Tuesday, Nov. 1.

“Having a friendly competition among all of the units in the College of Business will hopefully generate some additional collections and will be fun, too,” said Marcus D. Odom, School of Accountancy director, professor and Deloitte and Touche Faculty Fellow.
