Workshop to focus on leadership styles

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Different leadership styles work better for different people and situations.

A workshop from Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Labor and Employee Relations on Thursday, Nov. 3, will explore when it is best to use various types of leadership styles.  “Conducting a Leadership Symphony:  Shifting Keys” will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. in the Student Health Center Auditorium.  The presentation is open to all faculty and staff.

Carol Fisher, workforce learning and development officer, will discuss how partnering for performances determines which style best helps employees achieve their goals.  She said while people sometimes intend to say one thing what they actually speak sounds different, but in this session they’ll learn about directive and maintenance behavior, leadership styles, development levels and more.

Participants can register as on site upon arrival or in advance by sending an RSVP email to Fisher at cefisher@siu.edu.
