Homecoming queen, king, parade winners named

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale drew a large crowd for the “Once Upon a Time” Homecoming 2011 celebration with reunions, tailgate celebrations, football, volleyball, basketball and a host of other special activities. 

Reigning over the festivities was Autumn Anthony, the 2011 queen, and king Christopher Shelton.  The student body selected the royalty via online voting.  Anthony and Shelton claimed their crowns during the halftime activities at the Saluki football game Oct. 15.

            The complete 2011 Homecoming Court, listed by hometown with year at the University and major, included:

Bloomington

            •  Emily Caldwell, senior, business finance with accounting minor

Chicago

            •  Christopher Shelton, graduate student, education

Decatur

            •  Stacie Ostrander, senior, fashion merchandising with marketing minor.

Enfield

            •  Stephanie Lynn Carter, senior, elementary education

Flossmoor

            •  Ryan Reed, senior, public relations with psychology minor

Highland Park

            •  Robbie Falkenrath, senior, communication design with marketing and art history minors

Oak Park

•  Autumn Anthony, senior, journalism with advertising specialization and political science minor

Perry

•  Ross Smith, junior, criminal justice with specialization in forestry natural resources

Saint Charles

            •  Kyle Fredericks, junior, marketing with management minor

Wheeling

            •  Erin Goetzelmann, senior, special education and elementary education

 

Of course, there was the traditional homecoming parade, too, as Mother Nature cooperated by providing a gorgeous day.  The Homecoming 2011 parade winners include:

Large float

            •  1st -- Sigma Pi and Beta Theta Pi

            •  2nd -- Alpha Gamma Rho/Sigma Kappa

            •  3rd -- Phi Kappa Tau/Southern Illinois Dance Company

Small float

            •  1st -- Electronics Association

            •  2nd --SIU Women’s Rugby

            •  3rd -- The Reserve at Saluki Point

Walking/marching units

            •  1st -- Craft Shop/Sustainability Council

            •  2nd -- Up ‘til Dawn

            •  3rd -- Air Force ROTC

Car/truck

            •  1st -- Morris Library

            •  2nd -- Murphysboro Apple Festival

            •  3rd -- College of Liberal Arts/Dean
