Abdul-Musawwir to present gallery talk

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Najjar Abdul-Musawwir, associate professor in the School of Art and Design at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, presents a gallery talk in conjunction with his current exhibit on campus.

Abdul-Musawwir will begin his talk at 4 p.m. on Oct. 1 in the Surplus Gallery, located in the Glove Factory at 432 S. Washington Ave., a School of Art and Design facility. 

His exhibit, “Harvesting an Artist’s Mind: Paintings and Drawings by Najjar” runs in the Surplus Gallery Sept. 26 through Oct. 1. 

Abdul-Musawwir serves as the head of undergraduate studies for the SIUC School of Art and Design, and he teaches drawing and painting as well as core curriculum classes.  An SIUC alumnus, Abdul-Musawwir has participated in group and solo exhibitions around the world.  Some highlights from his career include participation in the International African conference segment of the 1999 Panafest at the University of Cape Coast and Cultural Center in Ghana, Africa; inclusion in the public broadcasting program, “Artists Across Illinois,” and a solo exhibit at Bilkent University in Ankara, Turkey.

The SIUC School of Art and Design, St. Louis Art Museum FAAA Collectors, Carbondale Community Arts and the Judge William Holmes Cook Endowment Professorship sponsored this exhibit.
