Salsa music and dancing set for Friday

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A night of energetic salsa music and dancing is on tap this month at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and the event is free and open to everyone.

Noche de Gala salsa night is set for 8-11 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 23, in the Student Center Ballrooms.  This popular event, in its 10th year, usually draws hundreds of people.

Semi-formal attire is requested.  Music will be by the band La Dynastia Freddy Kenton.

If your salsa skills need a little work or perhaps you’re starting from scratch, you can prepare for the big event with free salsa lessons.  Lessons will be from 7-10 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 21 in Ballroom D at the Student Center.

Sigma Lambda Beta and Special Programs and Center Events are the Noche de Gala sponsors.  For more information, look online at www.siucstudentcenter.org or call 618/453-1142.

Noche de Gala is one of the various SIUC events during Latino Heritage Month.  Numerous educational and entertaining activities run through Oct. 23.  It’s also part of Saluki Family Weekend.
