Panel to answer first-year students’ questions

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Nearly every first-year college student has a multitude of questions when they step onto campus at the beginning of the semester.

Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Multicultural Programs and Services is sponsoring “Freshmen:  What you need to know!” on Wednesday, Aug. 31, to provide those sought-after answers.  The presentation is in Ballroom A at the Student Center from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

A panel of sophomores, juniors and seniors, including fraternity and sorority members and students not affiliated will all be sharing their experiences and advice for participants.  The panel members will offer strategies for academic, personal and social success.   Brianna Hayes, a Belleville graduate student in college student personnel, will be the event moderator.

Multicultural Programs and Services, a unit of Student Life, provides advocacy, mentorship and support to students from historically underrepresented populations and to all students offers opportunities to interact and grow in cultural understanding.  For more information about Multicultural Programs and Services or the program for first year students, call 618/453-5714.
