Student Center’s annual Open House is Aug. 25

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Student Center at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is welcoming students back to campus with its annual Open House celebration on Thursday, Aug. 25.

The activities run all day long, beginning at 9 a.m. and wrapping up at 9 p.m.  Learn what the Student Center has to offer as you’re having fun and getting a chance to win great prizes playing Scavenger Hunt Bingo, or visit the Craft Shop on the lower level and participate in a wide variety of crafts and special activities.  There’s a free concert, a bicycle workshop, fortune telling, a movie and much more throughout the day.

The Open House schedule of events includes:

•  9-11 a.m.: Bowling and Billiards $1 games

•  11 a.m.-1 p.m.: WIDB radio live remote broadcast near the north escalators.

•  11 a.m.-4 p.m.: Spin-It-To-Win-It game on the second floor landing.

•  11 a.m.-4:30 p.m.: Scavenger Hunt Bingo

•  11 a.m.-5 p.m.: Crafts Galore at the Craft Shop

•  11:30 a.m.-1 p.m.: Noon Tunes, free concert in the Roman Room featuring Sam West and Ron Coulter.  Also, Saluki Spokes will host a free bicycle maintenance workshop at the north entrance of the Student Center.

•  1-3 p.m.: Madam Bling fortune telling in the Big Muddy Room.

•  5-7 p.m.: RSO and Volunteerism Fair, featuring information about more than 400 Registered Student Organizations at SIUC as well as other opportunities to get involved on campus and in the community, in the Corker Lounge and ballrooms.

•  7-9 p.m.: Free movie, “Bridesmaids” from Student Programming Council Films in the Auditorium.

Student Center restaurants will also be offering special food prices, free samples and more -- including a prize wheel and a visit by a famous eatery mascot.
