Auditions set for upcoming theater productions

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Department of Theater at Southern Illinois University Carbondale announces auditions for upcoming productions of “The Glass Menagerie” and “Irving Berlin’s White Christmas.”

“The Glass Menagerie”

Auditions begin at 7 p.m. on Aug. 24 for theater majors, with auditions for non-majors and community members set for 7 p.m. on Aug. 25.  Sign-in begins at 6:45 both evenings, and actors will be seen on a first-come basis.  Majors may sign up for an audition time in the department office.  Callbacks are at 7 p.m. on Aug. 26.  Auditions are at McLeod Theater in the Communications Building. 

Theater majors should prepare one serious monologue, 60-90 seconds long, from any Tennessee Williams’ play, not limited to “The Glass Menagerie.”  Non-majors and community members may prepare a monologue, but selections from the play are available for reading. 

Roles are for two men, and for one woman to play early 20s, and one woman to play late 40s to 50.

“Irving Berlin’s White Christmas”

Auditions begin at 9 a.m. on Aug. 27 for all interested in appearing in the production --theater majors, non-majors and community members.  Callbacks are at 2 p.m. on Aug. 27.  Auditions are in Altgeld Hall, Room 116. 

Prospective cast members should prepare a 90-second cut of an up-tempo, mid-20th century American standard song, such as those composed by Berlin, Rodgers and Hart, or Gershwin, and should bring a copy of the music for the accompanist, who will be on hand.  Actors should also come prepared to participate in a dance audition.

Available roles are:  nine women and nine men singer/actor/dancers able to play early 20s to 30s; one woman singer/comic actor able to play 40-50; and two male actors in non-singing roles able to play 50s.
