Media Advisory -- Camp Little Giant

Camp Little Giant, Southern Illinois University Carbondale's camp for children and adults of various abilities and disabilities, will have two special presentations next week and media are welcome to attend.

Reporters, photographers and news crews may come to Dyna Camp, a camp for youths ages 8-18 with attention deficit, hyperactive disorder as the campers welcome visitors from a local fire department and also a performance and visit with cast members from “Peter Pan,” a McLeod Summer Playhouse musical. Both events will be at SIUC’s Touch of Nature Environmental Center, located about eight miles south of Carbondale off Giant City Road.

The Makanda Fire Department will visit at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 2, for a demonstration and to give the campers a chance to hose off. It will take place in the Camp 2 parking lot area.

The “Peter Pan” cast will be in the Friends Room at Camp 2’s Little Grassy Lodge at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 3. They’ll do a short performance and then enjoy time interacting with the nearly three dozen youths at Camp Little Giant.

Both groups are visiting the camp as a community service. For more information, contact Vicki Lang-Mendenhall at 618/453-1121, ext. 231 or email vickil@siu.edu.
