Media Advisory -- Engineering Day Camp

Reporters, photographers and news crews are welcome to cover Engineering Day Camp next week at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.
The three-day event will introduce middle school and junior high-aged students to engineering concepts and careers, giving youngsters the opportunity to participate in hands-on experiments and demonstrations of engineering concepts and techniques.
Participants will interact with SIUC engineering faculty and students who will engage the students in engineering challenges and introduce them to the roles engineers play. The event includes demonstrations and activities with the College of Engineering’s hovercraft and the famous “Saluki Egg Drop” competition, which requires the young engineers to construct a device that will prevent an egg from breaking when dropped from a certain height.
Organizers also plan a rocket launch competition, catapult design competition, robot design and testing and other events and projects.
The camp is set for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday-Wednesday, June 20-22. For more information, contact Lizette Chevalier, acting associate dean, at 618/453-4321.
