SIUC to offer two summer boys basketball camps

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Intercollegiate Athletics, in conjunction with the Division of Continuing Education at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, will offer two basketball camps as part of the summer 2011 camp schedule. Boys’ camps are set for June 13-16 and June 27-29 at the SIU Arena.

Young players entering grades 3-8 may register for the Boys Basketball Half-day Camp that meets 9 a.m. to noon June 13-16. This camp emphasizes offensive skill development along with team play, contests, and fun. Instructors will stress the basic fundamentals of shooting, ball handling and passing.

Registration for Boys Basketball Half Day Camp is $85. This fee includes a camp T-shirt, basketball, instruction from a nationally proven coaching staff, interaction with Saluki players, an awards ceremony, and limited accident medical camper coverage. The deadline to register is May 26.

Young players entering grades K-3 may attend the Jr. Saluki Camp on June 27-29. Those in kindergarten and first grade will meet 8:30-10 a.m. while children in grades 2-3 will meet from 10:30 a.m. to noon. These camps will introduce the basic fundamentals of basketball to children in a fun and positive environment. They will shoot at lowered baskets with smaller balls to enhance proper technique. Games and contests will make this camp memorable.

Registration for Jr. Saluki Camp is $55. This fee includes a camp T-shirt, a camp ball, instruction from the coaching staff and interaction with Saluki players. The deadline to register for this camp is June 24.
