Flags lowered to honor peace officers

Under a proclamation signed by Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn, the United States flag and the Illinois flag are to be at half-staff at all State of Illinois facilities on Sunday, May 15, to honor peace officers.

Flags are to be flown at half-staff beginning at sunrise until sunset on Sunday on behalf of Peace Officers Memorial Day. The legislation notes that Illinois recognizes each May 15 as National Peace Officers Memorial Day “with respect and gratitude for the service to America given by peace officers across the nation.”
