SIUC to host summer tennis camps for youths

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Intercollegiate Athletics, in conjunction with the Division of Continuing Education at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, will offer two tennis camps this summer for youths entering grades 3-12 who want to build their knowledge and skills on the court.

Camp participants will receive training in mental toughness and visualization techniques along with footwork and conditioning help specialized for tennis. Other camp features include a video analysis of each participant’s strokes along with match analysis and strategy.

Campers will enjoy single and double match play. All participants will receive a written evaluation at the completion of camp. Resident campers will enjoy evening activities with camp instructors, as well.

Top college players will be assisting Audra Nothwehr, SIUC's head women’s tennis coach, in providing instruction for the 2011 camp season.

Tennis Camp I is set for June 5-8. It is a commuter camp for players entering grades 3-12. For those registering before May 23 the fee is $195, while registrations after the early bird deadline will be $220.

Tennis Camp II is June 12-15. Players entering grades 7-12 may register as commuter or resident campers. Players entering grades 3-6 may only register as commuters. The residential camper fee for Camp II is $365 for registrations received by May 23 or $395 for registrations received after the early bird deadline. The residential fee includes all meals and lodging.

Commuter campers may register for $195 by May 23 or $220 after that date.

All camp registration fees provide a Saluki tennis T-shirt and limited accident medical coverage. Participants should bring their own rackets, shoes designed for tennis play, hat or visor and water bottle. Commuters should bring their lunches. All camps will be meet at the SIUC tennis courts.
