Taste of Asia Spring Festival set for April 30

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- This weekend’s Taste of Asia Spring Festival on the Southern Illinois University Carbondale campus is a chance to sample and celebrate the cultures of several Asian countries.

The event is set for 1-5 p.m. on Saturday, April 30, on the front steps of Shryock Auditorium and the surrounding area. Visit booths featuring food and displays from the Philippines, China, India, Taiwan and other Asian countries. Enjoy cultural performances by the Malaysian Student Association, the Japanese Student Association and other SIUC student groups as they honor and share their cultures. There will also be a special performance by Korean hip-hop artist, Shin-B.

The festival is the finale of SIUC’s Asian American Heritage Month, which brought a variety of entertaining and enriching events to campus. The festival will also feature the announcement of winners from the SIUC Iron Chef Competition earlier in the month.

“Come out to Shryock for free food, live performances and fun in the sun!” said Chris Hernando, president of the United Asian American Council, the group organizing the event.
