by Pete Rosenbery

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale students, faculty and staff have the chance later this month to utilize the numerous services offered by Secretary of State Jesse White's office.

White’s office will offer certain driver and vehicle services on Wednesday, April 27. Driver’s license, state identification renewal, license plate sticker purchases, organ and tissue donor registration, and other services will be available from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Student Center Art Gallery.

Secretary of State employees will renew, replace or correct driver’s licenses and identification cards. Motorists will also be able to purchase vehicle renewal stickers for license plates, including SIUC collegiate specialty plates, passenger vehicle, motorcycle, and B-truck plates. Vehicle title registration and parking placards for persons with disabilities are also available.

“This is the fourth year of this partnership between the Secretary of State’s Office and Southern Illinois University,” White said in a statement. “This is a great example of how my office can work with public and private institutions to make these transactions more convenient.”

Payment by personal checks, cash, MasterCard, American Express and Discover credit and debit cards is accepted. For the complete list of acceptable forms of identification look online at www.cyberdriveillinois.com/.

In addition, specialty organ/tissue donor plates will be available. April is “National Donate Life! Month.” Purchasing the plates help fund organ and tissue donor awareness efforts across the state. Nearly 5,000 Illinois residents are waiting for a lifesaving transplant, and a single donor can save or enhance the lives of more than 25 people, according to White’s office.
