Women's fashion choices topic of workshop

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- "Dress to Impress, Express or Oppress?" is the title of an April 19 workshop at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

Derrick Williams, violence prevention coordinator at the Student Health Center, will lead the discussion from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Student Health Center Auditorium. He’ll explore a variety of issues with those attending including: criticisms of women’s fashions as too revealing, how women are judged based on what they wear, if women dress for approval from women or men, if there’s a double standard, the role media and the fashion industries play in the picture and more.

The workshop is free and anyone may attend.

The Student Health Center’s Wellness Center is sponsoring numerous workshops this spring addressing a wide assortment of health-related topics. The complete schedule is on the Student Health Center website at www.shc.siuc.edu or on the Community Health Calendar at www.communityhealthcalendar.siuc.edu.
