by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- An outdoor adventure awaits youths in grades 6-8 at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Touch of Nature Environmental Center on Saturday, April 16.

SIUC recreation students are teaming with Touch of Nature to host Spring into Action. It is a day of outdoor games and activities at the center’s Camp 2, about eight miles south of Carbondale on Giant City Road. From 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., participants will enjoy an assortment of fun activities including canoeing on the lake, tie-dying T-shirts, water balloon fights, field games and even a scavenger hunt. The children will also enjoy grilled food for lunch and drinks throughout the event.

And, it’s all free! While there is no cost to attend, you must pre-register online at https://www.ton.siu.edu/ and a maximum of 45 youngsters can participate.

Spring into Action is about giving children a chance to explore nature and learn new ways of enjoying it, according to event organizers. For more information, contact Juliette Baue at juliettemb@siu.edu or by calling 706/331-6763.
