Student Center to host Spring Fling on April 8

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Spring Fling is an all-new event coming to Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Student Center on Friday, April 8, bringing fun for all.

The Student Center will come alive from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. with an assortment of indoor and outdoor activities designed to re-create a spring break atmosphere, organizers say. The event offers assorted games, live music, prizes, food specials and a variety of other special activities. Better yet, virtually everything but the food is free!

Hear the Swamp Tigers play on the west patio or enjoy outdoor bowling. There will be grilling on the patio as well. Saluki Spokes is offering free bicycle tune-up help outside the north entrance and you can play skee ball in the bookstore.

Visit the Art Gallery (formerly the Hall of Fame) to play carnival-style games or participate in Zumba. You’ll also find a kissing booth and a Recreational Sports and Services Base Camp campsite there.

Stop by the north escalator area for “Think Before You Ink,” a workshop from the Student Health Center-Wellness Center. You can even get a free henna tattoo.

Bowling and Billiards is offering wacky bowling and at McDonald’s you can meet Grimace and enjoy games and food prizes. The Market Place will have assorted food specials, too.

Everyone is welcome to enjoy the Spring Fling activities. However, only SIUC students can win tickets by participating in the games and the tickets go into a drawing where they can win great prizes including a bicycle, a Nikon camera, Shryock event tickets and gift cards. You need not be present to win.

In the event of rain, the Swamp Tigers will perform in the Roman Room and other outdoor activities will move to the Art Gallery area.
