by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra finishes up its season by sharing the stage with special guests, the Southeast Missouri State University Orchestra.

The performance is set for Tuesday, March 29, at 7:30 p.m., with tickets on sale at the door beginning an hour before the performance begins. Tickets are $22 for general admission, $9 for students.

The two orchestras join forces to present “Pictures at an Exibition,” composed by Modest Mussorgsky. The “pictures” in this case are images from the University Museum collections.

The program also features David Halen, concertmaster of the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra. He will perform the “Violin Concerto No. 1” composed by Max Bruch.

A free performance for school-aged children is set for 10 a.m. in Shryock Auditorium the same day as part of the Klassics for Kids season.
