Workshop aims to increase Chlamydia awareness

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Text messaging and other forms of electronic communication are everywhere but sometimes, actual conversation is important.

“GYT4SS” is a March 23 workshop at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Student Health Center Auditorium at 5 p.m. and the message is that it’s time to talk to your sexual partners. There’s no cost to attend and everyone is welcome.

Christy Hamilton, sexual health coordinator, will highlight the importance and ease of getting tested, the need to use condoms for protection, and why it’s important to talk to partners. The workshop will increase awareness of the most common bacterial sexually transmitted infection, Chlamydia.

The Student Health Center’s Wellness Center is sponsoring several workshops focusing on a wide variety of health-related topics this spring. You can find the complete schedule on the Student Health Center website at www.shc.siuc.edu or on the Community Health Calendar at www.communityhealthcalendar.siuc.edu.
