Presentation will focus on eating disorders

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Many people deal with "The Silent Struggle." A free presentation this week at Southern Illinois University Carbondale addresses the problem of eating disorders.

Lynn Gill, nutrition coordinator at the Student Health Center-Wellness Center, will speak at 3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 24, in the Kaskaskia Room at the Student Center. The program is free and open to the public.

Disordered eating is not uncommon on college campuses and beyond, and Gill will discuss the medical complications associated with abnormal eating habits. She’ll also offer ways to approach someone who you suspect may be struggling with food issues.

The Wellness Center is sponsoring several workshops this spring. For the complete schedule, visit the Student Health Center website at www.shc.siuc.edu or check the Community Health Calendar at www.communityhealthcalendar.siuc.edu. Or, call 618/536-4441 for details about the workshops or the various services the Student Health Center and its Wellness Center offer.
