Student Center to host spring drag show

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Mardi Gras is coming to Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

The Mardi Gras Spring Drag Show, that is. Set for Friday, Feb. 4, in Ballrooms C and D at the Student Center, the show will feature some of the region’s most popular drag queens and kings. The doors open at 7 p.m. and the performance begins at 8 p.m.

Admission is $5 per person, payable at the door. The show is age appropriate for those who are 16 or older.

The popular event traditionally draws huge crowds. Audience members can participate, too, thanks to the suicide drag show. Those willing to join in the fun can sign up that evening and one man and one woman get the opportunity to be transformed into an entertainer of the opposite sex and then perform together in an impromptu drag show.

The Saluki Rainbow Network and Special Programs and Center Events (SPACE) are the drag show sponsors. For more information about the event, look online at www.siucstudentcenter.org or call 618/453-1142.
