RSO and Volunteerism Fair set for Jan. 20

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- A new semester means new opportunities at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

The RSO (Registered Student Organization) and Volunteerism Fair is set for 5-7 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 20, at the Student Center Ballrooms. The event offers students the chance to learn about a wide variety of ways to get involved both at SIUC and in the surrounding community. Representatives from more than 150 organizations will be on hand to talk to students. Additionally, those in attendance will be able to learn more about the more than 400 RSOs on campus and about numerous community groups.

Student Development sponsors a fair at the beginning of each semester and typically about 500-1,000 students attend, according to Amanda Phillips, coordinator of Student Development. She said participants will be able to meet new people, get connected and learn more about all sorts of opportunities to get involved, or perhaps more involved, on campus and in the region through volunteerism.

The theme of the Spring RSO and Volunteerism Fair is “College is not a spectator sport…Get Involved!” For more information about Student Development and the Registered Student Organizations, look online at http://siuc.orgsync.com.
