Joint SIUC, NTTFA news release

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Administration of Southern Illinois University Carbondale and the SIUC Non-Tenure Track Faculty Association bargaining teams are pleased to announce that they have made substantial progress toward reaching a successor bargaining agreement which will achieve the necessary savings in non-attrition related personnel cost for the University while addressing the needs of the employees.

Both parties understand and agree that achieving the necessary savings through non-layoff means such as unpaid closure days or furloughs is preferable.

Based on this progress, the parties agree that the layoff notices issued in December will be rescinded, and have mutually requested the services of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service to appoint a mediator to assist the parties in finalizing an agreement on the outstanding contractual issues.

The intent of the parties is to have a finalized agreement in the near future.
