Art student wins radio station’s logo contest

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Ian Steele, a senior art major at Southern Illinois University Carbondale from Marissa, scored a win for his resume with the recent selection of his logo design by CIL-FM, a regional radio station.

Steele’s design was one of 127 submitted to the radio station during its recent “Design Our Logo” contest. Staff at CIL-FM and Silkworm Inc., a local silkscreen, embroidery and graphics company, narrowed the field first to 28 semi-finalists, then to five finalists. Listener votes contributed to the final selection.

Steele’s four-color design will replace the previous logo, which had been in place at the radio station for more than a decade. The radio station is part of the RiverRadio group of stations.

As the logo contest winner, Steele received an Apple iPad and a week’s externship at Silkworm. Silkworm and Ron Ward Chevrolet in Herrin sponsored the logo contest.
