Aviation students receive scholarships

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Fifteen students enrolled in Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s aviation programs received scholarships during the recent fall aviation banquet.

The Aviation Management Society, an SIUC registered student organization, sponsors the banquet. Some of the scholarships honor SIUC graduates and all support students in the aviation management, aviation flight, and aviation technologies programs.

The aviation programs are part of the College of Applied Sciences and Arts.

Seventeen scholarships, totaling more than $29,700 in scholarships and aviation course fees, were presented during the “Aviation in the Future” banquet. The event was also a celebration of the 50th anniversary of SIUC aviation.

The Department of Aviation Management and Flight and Department of Aviation Technologies together have 434 students are majoring in aviation flight, aviation management, and aviation technologies, or working to earn a Master of Public Administration in Aviation Administration degree.

Next year’s banquet is set for Oct. 28.
