CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Tim J. Nimmo and Kaitlyn Fazekas are the newest recipients of the Student Employee of the Month awards from Recreational Sports and Services at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. They earned the honor for October.

Nimmo, of Anna, is the son of Weldon Nimmo and Diane Nimmo. Nimmo is a fitness floor leader for RSS, a position he’s had for a year. He is a senior physical therapist assistant major. Following graduation, he plans to relocate to the Chicago area and work as a physical therapist assistant. Visitors to the Student Recreation Center frequently comment on the excellent customer service Nimmo provides.

“Tim is an employee who goes out of his way to help patrons in the weight room. He is an example of the ideal in that he helps patrons with exercise selection, spotting, lifting techniques and general fitness questions. His personal commitment to exercise and knowledge truly benefits our patrons,” said Lynn Thompson-Cundiff, assistant director of fitness for RSS.

Fazekas, of Crete, is the daughter of Debra and John Fazekas. She works at the reception desk, as an administrative assistant and with facility reservations for RSS. RSS has employed her for nearly two years. Fazekas is a junior elementary education major planning to do her student teaching next spring and possibly study abroad in Italy during the summer. After graduating in May 2012 she plans to become an elementary school teacher, preferably working with third or fourth graders.

“Kate makes my job so much easier. I know I can trust her to get the job done. She is tremendous. Kaitlyn is one of those student employees you wish would become a career student and never graduate,” said Todd Bryson, assistant director for RSS.

Supervisors say Fazekas is dependable, self-sufficient, intelligent and a go-getter who never complains but is quick to takes an idea and work with it until the job is done. They said Fazekas played a key role in the success of numerous events at the Student Recreation Center during the past year including six graduations, three large after-hours events and numerous open houses.
