Chancellor to participate in Civil Service forum

by Pete Rosenbery

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale Chancellor Rita Cheng will be available to discuss issues relevant to SIUC Civil Service employees during an open forum next week.

The forum is set for 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Monday, Dec. 13, at Shryock Auditorium.

The forum is geared specifically for Civil Service staff. Chancellor Cheng will provide in-depth responses to questions submitted in advance, and also accept questions from the floor.

“The Civil Service Council has sponsored several of these types of events in the past,” Civil Service Council President Mark Wetstein said. “It began with Chancellor Wendler and offers the staff an opportunity to interact directly with the Chancellor. The tradition fell off during the last three years but I have found that Dr. Cheng is very open and willing to participate in this type of event. The toughest part has just been trying to fit into her schedule.”

Questions for Chancellor Cheng must be received by Friday, Dec. 10. Wetstein is accepting questions at mark.wetstein@wsiu.org, or by campus mail at Mark Wetstein, Broadcasting Service, Mail Code 6602.

The Civil Service Council represents civil service employees at SIUC The Council, as a recognized constituency, functions within the overall governance structure of the University and advises and consults with the Chancellor on a regular basis. Civil Service Council membership is comprised of employees elected from the civil service staff on the SIUC campus.
