Art students preparing for holiday sales events

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- You’ve heard it before, but in this case it’s true. It really is possible to find a unique gift this holiday season, and, at the same time, for your purchase to benefit a worthy cause.

Art students at Southern Illinois University Carbondale offer their art for sale at several pre-holiday venues, including the annual Holiday Craft Sale at the SIUC Student Center. The works are unique creations, and the sales help the students and the art associations with which they are affiliated. The art associations bring visiting artists to campus.

Several of the art student associations offer holiday preview sales on Dec. 1. Visit the Industrial Wing of Pulliam Hall for a pottery sale presented by Southern Clay Works. The sale is in the ceramics studio, giving buyers a chance to see where the students create their works. The preview sale is 4-8 p.m. on Dec. 1, with a sale day set for 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Dec. 2.

The Graduate Association of Painters and Printmakers (GAPP) present a mini-print preview sale in the Glove Factory, located at 432 S. Washington Ave., from 4 to 8 p.m. on Dec. 1. If you miss the preview, find the GAPP offerings at the Holiday Craft Sale in the Student Center, set for Dec. 2-4.

Southern Glass Works also offers a holiday sale, featuring ornaments and other glassware. The sale is set for 4:30-7:30 p.m. on Dec. 1-2 at The Glass House, located at 1002 W. Whitney in Carbondale.
