Horsemanship sessions set for Dec. 4

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Horse owners who want to improve their riding and communication skills can enroll in two three-hour sessions set for Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Southern Illinois University Carbondale Metabolism and Physiology Center, 2422 Union Hill Road. The morning session begins at 9 a.m. Following a noon lunch break, the afternoon session starts at 1 p.m.

Tony Powell, a native of Tennessee with experience in rodeo, ranching and the national quarter horse circuit, will lead the sessions, limited to six riders each, though both can handle an unlimited number of auditors.

Riders of all skill levels may register. They will pay $45 per session and must provide their own tack and horse as well as proof of negative Coggins test results. Riders who wish to audit one session may do so for free. Others will pay $10 for the day.
