Klassics for Kids concert set for Nov. 2

by Andrea Hahn

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Beethoven with a side of Beethoven is on the menu for the Klassics for Kids concert Nov. 2 at Southern Illinois University Carbondale.

The concert begins at 10 a.m. in Altgeld Hall, Room 112. The intended audience for this educational concert is children ages pre-kindergarten through third grade.

This concert features a string quartet, oboe trio, solo piano and more. As always, Klassics for Kids is a free performance.

Kara Benyas, pianist, and her husband, Edward Benyas, professor of oboe at SIUC and music director of the Southern Illinois Symphony Orchestra, developed the Klassics for Kids program in 2004 with the goal of introducing classical and jazz music to children in an environment friendly to their attention spans, need for movement and tendencies to listen in less than perfect silence.

Klassics for Kids concerts have become an important part of music education in the area, with several schools and daycare centers regularly bringing large groups of young listeners.

No reservations are needed.
