Army ROTC hosting 5K run/walk, 10K run Oct. 30

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s U.S. Army Reserve Officer Training Corps is hosting its second 5K run/walk and 10K run around campus on Saturday, Oct. 30.

The event begins at 9 a.m., and is open to all ages. The early registration fee is $15 by Oct. 17; the late registration fee is $20. Each entrant will receive a goody bag and race T-shirt. The run/walk registration is also available at the event.

Packet pickup will be from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m. Oct. 30, at Kesnar Hall, 1225 Douglas Drive. The event begins and finishes at Kesnar Hall.

Reporters, photographers and camera crews are welcome to cover the event. SIUC U.S. Army ROTC staff members and participating ROTC cadets will be available for interviews. Contact Capt. Jonathan A. The event is to promote healthy living, according to the ROTC. The Illinois Veterans Home in Anna will receive a portion of the event’s proceeds as a donation.

The top three overall participants and top three participants in each age group will receive awards.

Event organizers encourage participants to wear costumes, and welcome leashed dogs to also participate.
