Ten questions with ... Michael D. Brazley

Job on campus/department you work in: Associate professor, School of Architecture

How long at SIUC: Since fall 2003.

When you were a youngster, what did you want to be when you grew up? At about seven years of age I saw a steel building being constructed. The workmen walking on the steel beams was very exciting. I decided then that I wanted to become an architect. I have never changed my mind.

People don’t know that you… Are a very good chess player.

What is something you still want to accomplish in life? I would like to make full professor within the next three years.

What is one random fact about you? I went from a bachelor’s degree straight to a doctorate. I skipped getting a master’s degree.

Cats or dogs? My cat, Patches, weighs 16 pounds while my dog, Shaggy, full-grown, weighs 12 pounds. My cat is bigger than my dog.

What is your favorite food and why? My favorite foods are fried chicken and barbecue. I like picnics and grilling food.

Who has inspired you, and how? My Mother inspires me; her passing has taken the sting out of death.

What is your pet peeve? Administrative and faculty politics.

What would you like your gravestone to say about you? Son, Father, Brother, Husband, Friend and Christian.

Favorite cartoon character? Why? Bugs Bunny -- he was always smarter than his opponents. What’s up Doc?
