Campus Safety Alert

The Southern Illinois University Carbondale Department of Public Safety is investigating a robbery that occurred Friday, Sept. 3, in the lower level of the parking garage near the Student Center.

The robbery occurred at about 3:15 p.m. A 19-year-old male SIUC student told police he was walking through the parking garage when two men approached. One of the men walked up and took the victim’s cellular telephone. No weapon was displayed. The victim was not injured.

The two suspects walked south to the parking lot west of McAndrew Stadium, where they met a black male and black female, and got into a black full-sized van with tinted windows. The make and model of the van are unknown.

The victim, who went to the parking garage entrance and watched the suspects, said the van left the parking lot and headed west on Lincoln Drive.

The two suspects in the parking garage are described as black males.

The first suspect is approximately 6 feet tall with a dark complexion, medium build, and weighing between 160 and 180 pounds. He was wearing a black T-shirt, black jeans and brown boots.

The second suspect is approximately 5 feet, 8 inches tall, with a medium complexion and skinny, weighing approximately 145 pounds. He was wearing a white T-shirt, black pants and a white hat.

Police advise members of the campus community to be aware of their surroundings at all times, and if traveling at night to use the Saluki Express, Night Safety Transit Service and Brightway Path. In addition, emergency call phones are located across campus, including on both overpasses.
