Student Center adds Jow Jing restaurant

by Christi Mathis

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Jow Jing, the newest restaurant at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Student Center, will host a grand opening Tuesday, Sept. 7.

Advanced Fresh Concepts Corp. (AFC) brings to Student Center Dining Services a Japanese-inspired menu featuring natural and fresh food items designed to appeal to the health-conscious student looking for a tasty and quick dining option. AFC has more than 20 years experience in North America offering a variety of sushi products, sushi-related items and other authentic Asian style foods.

The restaurant offers combination meals featuring entrees including chicken, beef, tofu, salmon sushi and spring rolls. A trained AFC sushi chef will head the team preparing fresh food daily.

“The addition of Jow Jing to the Student Center dining options creates an opportunity for the University community to try traditional Asian wok favorites. The chefs have created great sauces to complement the hot dishes and fresh, tossed Asian salads. In addition, they will roll sushi fresh each day. I am excited about the diversity this concept brings to our dining options in the Student Center,” said Lori Stettler, Student Center director.

Jow Jing opened Aug. 31 in the location formerly occupied by Chef Yan Can Cook but the grand opening is set for Tuesday, Sept. 7. Free food samples and lunch specials are in the works for the grand opening.

The restaurant will be open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. weekdays. For more information, call 618/453-5331 or visit the website at www.siucstudentcenter.org.
