Chamber luncheon, entrepreneurship event set

CARBONDALE, Ill. -- The Entrepreneurship and Business Development Unit at Southern Illinois University Carbondale is hosting the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce’s monthly luncheon in September and those attending can also participate in an Entrepreneurship Mini Conference.

The luncheon and entrepreneurship event will be from 8 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Sept. 14 at the Dunn-Richmond Economic Development Center, 150 E. Pleasant Hill Road. The morning begins with a continental breakfast.

Participants can then opt to attend a demonstration of doing long-distance business via Skype or participate in “Hands on How-to: Social Networking,” which will offer basic Facebook and Twitter instructions for businesses. Other morning sessions include two different sessions of each of these programs: “Low Cost, No Cost Marketing” and “Excel with Great Customer Service.”

The 2011 Entrepreneurship Panel will offer valuable information during the luncheon catered by Southern Que. Kathy Sweeney of KFVS-12 will be the moderator. Panelists include Jason Bourque of Common Grounds Coffee House, Sam Cox of My Favorite Toys, Shad Zimbro of Black Diamond Harley-Davidson and Jan Payne of the accounting firm Payne, Gaertner and Associates. A ribbon cutting at 12:30 p.m. for new chamber member Liaison Technologies concludes the event.
